Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius).

Mix melted, slightly cooled butter, espresso powder, and milk to warm. The milk and butter may clump, so microwave it in 15-second intervals and stir until combined. Save.

Butter an oven-safe baking dish with a tablespoon (14 g). Cover the baking pan with chocolate cake mix. Cover with chocolate pudding. Spread mixture evenly on pan.

Pour milk-butter mixture evenly over chocolate cake mix and pudding layers. Just blend the wet and dry components without clumping the dry ingredients.

Bake the chocolate dump cake 35–45 minutes. Cool the chocolate cake mix cobbler 10–15 minutes. Serve in a bowl with ice cream if desired.
