In mulled wine, "mull" means to warm a drink and add sugar and seasonings, not to contemplate a difficult decision. Your mulled wine questions won't be particularly difficult either.
– 2 large navel orange– 30 clove– ⅔ cup sugar– ⅔ cup water– 2 (750-milliliter) bottles Cabernet Sauvignon– 2 + 12 cinnamon sticks, divided– 4 star anise– 6 ounces amber rum
Ingredient
Direction
Cut each orange into four rounds using a sharp knife. Oranges should be cut into five slices, and six cloves should be pressed into the pith of each slice.
1
Make sure to set aside the remaining orange rounds for garnish by cutting them in half.
2
In a large saucepan set over medium-low heat, combine the sugar and water.
3
Make a stir. In order to dissolve the sugar, bring to a simmer. Cinnamon sticks, star anise, and oranges that have been pressed with cloves should be added to wine.
4
Maintain a low simmer for thirty minutes to one hour. Separate the oranges and spices from the wine using a strainer.
5
When you are ready to serve, pour half an ounce of rum into twelve small mugs that are heat-resistant.
6
Each mug should have one slice of orange and one cinnamon stick added to it.
