Homemade Cherry Pie Recipe

People love cherry pie for a reason! The crust is flaky and crisp, and the cherries are juicy and sweet. You will want this pie all year long.

INGREDIENT

-Pie crust for a 9-inch double-crust pie -1 batch homemade cherry pie filling -1 egg -1 tablespoon water -Granulated sugar or coarse sugar for topping

INSTRUCTION

Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll and gently place the bottom pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate. Spread homemade cherry pie filling evenly in the pie plate.

Step 1

Roll the top crust large enough to cover the pie with overhang.  Put the crust on the pie gently.

Step 2

Trim the edges and/or tuck excess pie crust under, then crimp and seal the pie edges with your fingers. Slit the top crust with a sharp paring knife.

Step 3

Cutting the top crust into strips creates a lattice crust for your pie. Mix egg and water. Lightly brush top crust. Sprinkle coarse or granulated sugar.

Step 4

Bake on a rimmed baking sheet for 40–45 minutes until golden. See if the pie is too golden after 20–25 minutes and tent it with foil.

Step 5

Lightly cover the dark edges with foil or a pie guard. Cool before serving.
